A few of us made the trek up to Oxford to see the Tigers battle Ole Miss. While I had gone to some LSU/Ole Miss games back in the '80's, those games were held in Jackson. LSU always seemed to have many more fans in the stadium than Ole Miss. Those Jackson games almost seemed like home games. As with most SEC road trips, you hear stories about how bad the other teams fans are, and how rudely they treat their guest. I've heard many of those same stories about Ole Miss when they play in Oxford.
After witnessing an Oxford game first-hand, I must admit that the Ole Miss fans were great. We had no problems at all and all the Ole Miss fans we ran across were not only nice but also helpful and courteous. We sat by many Ole Miss fans in Vaught-Gormley Stadium (as Craig refers to it), and they were great. We all managed to have a good time while vigorously rooting for our respective teams.
I had also heard that Ole Miss had some of the best looking women in the world on campus on a football Saturday. While I'm sure that part of it was the LSU contingent, I must admit that I was not disappointed. In fact, there were so many beautiful women all over the place that we will have two BOG contests this week. One BOG will be of the tailgaters and the other BOG will be of those babes seen at the game.
The only negative thing I can say about Ole Miss deals with its campus. I had heard that they had one of the most beautiful campuses in America. I was somewhat disappointed. Most of the buildings on campus looked like they were built in the 1940's. Further, the architects were apparently more interested in functionality rather than aesthetics. While the Grove did live up to its billing, the other parts of the campus were a little disappointing. On entering the campus, we saw what was apparently a "new" Campanile which could only be described as pathetic. (See third Tailgating Pic below). I wonder what Lloyd, Bushwood's resident Campanologist, thinks of this structure? In any event, the more campuses I visit, the more I appreciate the beauty of the LSU campus. The only campus I have ever visited which even compares with LSU is Princeton.
While tailgating, some Ole Miss fans passed in their car by our tailgate site. After seeing our sign on our canopy, the driver yelled out his window, "I love your website." They stopped by and talked with us for a while. Their picture is the 10th picture in the Tailgating section. It was nice to have someone recognize us for the website. For the most part, the readers of this site are our friends and family. With the Drunk Schtate Fan Video, we've gotten much more exposure.
The game was great. Both teams were in the game until late in the fourth quarter. After making one pinhead throw off the back of his foot, Booty settled down and had another GREAT game. He's finally realizing his UPSIDE potential. I was a little worried about him this past week after reading a newspaper article in the Times Pic. He seemed more interested in his draft stock than Ole Miss and Arkansas. But, he really showed up this week. The team really seems to be rallying around him. Hopefully, we can go into Little Rock and kick the crap out of Arkansas, and (I CAN'T BELIEVE I'M SAYING THIS), HOPE that Alabama can upset Auburn.
At the end of the game, Nick Saban came down to thank the LSU fans seated in the East stands, near the south end zone. It didn't seem unusual because the team was going out of the stadium at the same point. It seems Saban then realized that many LSU fans had been placed in the north end zone. While the team was exiting the stadium, Saban literally ran to the other end of the field to thank those LSU fans who were still there celebrating the victory. This did it for Tobe. He is now convinced that Saban is the MAN. Click on the thumbnails below to enlarge the pictures of this event.
Finally, as a special feature, I've included a special section of LSU Cheerleader pix. We rarely get to sit so close to the cheerleaders, therefore, I took pictures of all the cheerleaders (the female cheerleaders, that is) and made a special table for those pix. Enjoy.
